This study aims to quantitatively show that participation in liberal dance education is an effective measure to improve the psychological stability of university students. The t-test and ANOVA was used to investigate differences in the depression scores before and after participating in liberal dance education the following results were acquired. 1) As for before and after depression scores for subjects participating in liberal dance education according to sex, factors of negative thoughts (0.36 points) and depressive emotions (0.61 points) were shown to have an statistically significant improvement for women. 2) As for before and after depression scores for subjects participating in liberal dance education according to grade, negative thoughts for freshmen (0.54 points) and juniors (0.26 points), physical concerns and anxiety for freshmen (0.19 points) and depressive emotions for juniors (0.39 points) were shown to have an statistically significant improvement. 3) As for before and after depression scores for subjects participating in liberal dance education according to prior dance experience, factors of negative thoughts (0.35 points), depressive emotions (0.51 points) were shown to have a statistically significant improvement for the group with prior experience. For the group without prior experience, depressive emotions (0.21 points) was shown to have a statistically signigicant improvement. 4) As for before and after depression scores for subjects participating in liberal dance education according to class type, statistically significant results were shown for negative thoughts by theory courses [0.18(p<.05)] and middle courses [0.23 (p<.01)] while for the factor physical concerns and anxiety, middle courses showed higher statistical significance than theory class. For the factor of depressive emotions, middle courses [0.57(p<.001)]were shown to have higher statistical significance than practical courses. Consequently, the psychological effect of liberal dance education on depression in university students can be recognized and demonstrates the value and effectiveness of liberal dance education as general education for mankind.
