초록

Muska Mosston(1966), who was a physical educator, introduced the Spectrum of teaching styles. This teaching theory, which identifies a unifying framework, delineates alternative teaching-learning styles. In dance, the relationship between a student and the a teacher is very special. Teachers need to know their students in profound ways because the relationship is personal. The Spectrum brings an integrated and a comprehensive approach to teach, which can be used for many subject through all ages. This idea can be applied to a field of dance education because it gives a logical and comprehensive structure of teaching-learning method. A styles of the Spectrum can be clustered to reflect two basic human capacities; reproducing knowledge or idea, such as replicate and practice skills, and producing new ideas, new movements, and new models. The purpose of this research is to apply the Spectrum of teaching styles to dance education as a new paradigm, and to develop the proposition specifically as a model of teaching-learning on dance in a unifying framework. This study deals with the eleven distinctive 'Teaching Dance; The Spectrum of Styles' researched by Elizabeth Gibbons(2007), and provides the goals and characteristics of the each style. The Spectrum can be appeared in different ranges depending on the person who has the authority of the decision making, either a teacher or a student. To conclude, there are eleven teaching styles of dance according to the Spectrum; The style A to E represents teaching options that foster reproduction. In this case, learners seek to reproduce an established information or practice codified skills, such as ballet, modern dance, jazz, and folk dance. The style F to G includes the process of the discovery of the new solution with critical thinking for specific disciplines of dance. Between these is the discovery threshold. The style H to K handles the options for discovering and generating of the new information, which an apply to creative idea for artistic.
