The study investigates terminology related to Korean ‘Hip Hop Choom’ to introduce its meaning and value as a Korean culture. ‘Street Dance’ is limited in scope as it implies it was born in the street. ‘Hip Hop Dance’ is, however, found suitable as a term because it can imply Street Dance and various Modern Dance in the aspect of culture. The study suggests ‘Choom’ should be adopted rather than ‘Dance’ to indicate the feature as a Korean culture as it is an intrinsic Korean term. The study is to propose ‘Hip Hop Choom’ is more suitable than ‘Hip Hop Dance’ for introducing the meaning and value of Korean hip hop culture that has made an exceptional progress in education, study and art.
Abstract
