K-스트릿 댄스와 K-pop 댄스를 통해 본 실용무용의 개념변화와 문화적 가치

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the concept and historical evolution of practical dance and to elucidate its cultural significance and value within the context of Korean society. In its formative stage, practical dance was primarily oriented toward functional benefits, emphasizing physical and mental well-being in everyday life. However, with the advent of K-street dance and K-pop dance, its domain expanded into the cultural industry through interaction with diverse artis- tic genres and in response to growing social demands. In this process, practical dance has evolved into a comprehensive concept encompassing professionalism, artistic expression, and educational value. In particular, K-street dance and K-pop dance, rooted in Korean cultural identity, have propelled the global diffusion of the Korean Wave, thereby demonstrating the international stature of practical dance. Furthermore, the establishment of academic associations and the implementation of specialized curricula at secondary and higher educational institutions have con- tributed to the development of an independent cultural system at both educational and scholarly levels. Consequently, practical dance has transcended the stage of passive cultural reception to emerge as an active cultural agent with global influ- ence, securing its position as a representative form of Korean dance with signifi- cant academic and cultural implications.
