유네스코 복합유산 ‘마추픽추 역사 보호 지구’의 주요 경관 고찰

본 연구는 잉카인들의 세계관에 따른 공간의 구조화와 주요 건축물의 특징과 경관에 대한 분석을 통해 마추픽추 역사 보호 지구의 지리적 특성을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 먼저, 잉카인의 세계관과 문화적 특징으로는, 첫째, 인티(Inti)라는 태양신을 중심으로 하는 다신교체제와 제국통치가 결합된 정교일치 국가로 대표적인 종교 경관과 축제는태양신과 관련이 깊으며. 둘째, 콘도르, 퓨마, 뱀을 숭상하여, 이와 관련된 세계관이 다양한 형태로 공간에 투영되고 있다. 셋째, 잉카인들은 돌을 다루는 능력이 매우 뛰어나서, 다양한 석조건축물과 농경지를 건설하였다. 넷째, 쿠스코를 중심으로 하는 잉카 도로를 건설하여 사람, 상품, 정보 등을 활발히 교류하였다. 연구대상지인 마추픽추는 이러한 잉카인들의 세계관과 문화적 특성이 잘 보존된 지역으로 콘도르의 모양으로 마추픽추가 건설되었으며, 태양신과 관련된 인티와타나, 토레온, 태양의 신전 등 종교경관 등이 있다. 또한 왕의 공간은 유적지의 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있으며, 지형의 높낮이로 신분에 따른 거주지 분화가 나타나고 있다. 세계에는 마추픽추 역사 보호 지구 외에 다양한 유산들이 많고 최근에는 세계유산 교육이 주목을 받고 있기 때문에, 지리적 관점으로 이를 재해석하고 접근하는 연구가 계속 이어질 필요가있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal the geographical characteristics of ‘Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu’ through analysis of the structure of space according to the Incans’ worldview and the characteristics and landscapes of major buildings. The Incan worldview and cultural characteristics are, first, a state of Orthodoxy that combines a polytheistic system centered on the sun god Inti and imperial rule, and representative religious landscapes and festivals are closely related to the sun god. Second, by honoring condors, pumas, and snakes, the world view related to this is projected into space in various forms. Third, the Incas were very good at handling stones, so they built various stone buildings and agricultural land. Fourth, the Inca road centered on Cusco was built to actively exchange people, goods, and information. Machu Picchu is an area where these Incan worldviews and cultural characteristics are well preserved, and Machu Picchu was built in the shape of a condor, and there are religious landscapes such as Intiwatana, Torreon, and the Temple of the Sun, which are related to the sun god. In addition, the king’s space occupies an important part of the historical site, and the height of the terrain shows the differentiation of residential areas according to status. There are many other heritage sites in the world other than ‘Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu’, and since world heritage education has recently been attracting attention, there is a need to continue to conduct research to reinterpret and approach them from a geographical perspective.
