Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of dance instructors' Mentor's Compe- tence on the subjective well-being of university students majoring in contempo- rary dance and to verify the mediating effect of communication skills. To achieve this objective, a survey was conducted over approximately six weeks, from Au- gust 23 to October 3, 2024, targeting 183 contemporary dance majors enrolled in universities in both metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas. For data analysis, the statistical program SPSS 18.0 was used to perform factor analysis, reliabil- ity analysis, multiple regression analysis, and mediated regression analysis. The results of the multiple regression analysis indicated that sensitivity competence had a positive (+) effect on self-awareness, a component of subjective well-being. Additionally, personality competence and sensitivity competence positively (+) influenced positive emotions, while sensitivity competence also had a positive (+) effect on confidence. The mediated regression analysis revealed that the under- standing of others, self-expression, and Communication with others of communi- cation skills-partially mediated the relationships between sensitivity competence and self-awareness, positive emotions, and confidence in subjective well-being. Based on these findings, this study suggests the expansion of student-instructor mentoring sessions, further research on communication skills, and in-depth quali- tative studies utilizing FGI (Focus Group Interviews) as significant implications.
