廣開土太王陵碑 ‘丙申年’조의 재검토 — 柳承國 교수의 설과 관련하여 —

Abstract

This article reexamines contents of the articles in ‘Year of Byeongsin’ on Great King Kwangkaeto’s tombstone which have been an issue in the academic world. It investigates characteristics and limitations of the most influential theories among existing ones; ① the common theory from Japanese academia, ② In Bo Jeong’s and ③ Wang Jian-qun’s theory and it concentrates on analyzing that of Seung Kook Lew which drew rational interpretations by critically accepting these three. Seung Kook Lew obtained a rubbing of tombstone which had not been subject to applying lime yet and presented uncommon aspects in decipherment and interpretation. He also suggested unique perspectives in examining the essence of ancient Korean thoughts and the prototype of Korean thoughts. He is considered to be researcher striving to destroy prejudices of nationcentrism and irrational arguments and to draw universal interpretation and decipherment, which is the ground for focusing on introducing his theory and promoting academic attention. The author of this study positions the theory of Lew, Seung kook as the fourth theory. In addition, it is intended to draw an interpretation to be a standard by diagnosing problems and questions in Lew’s theory.
