성호 이익의 관혼례(冠婚禮) 의절(儀節) 연구

본 논문은 성호 이익이 실제 관례와 혼례를 거행하며 의식절차를 정리한 「산절관의(刪節冠儀)」와 「취부의(娶婦儀)」, 「가녀의(嫁女儀)」의 내용 분석을 통해, 이익이 제시한 실용적인 관례와 혼례 의절에 대해 고찰한 것이다. 이익은 관례에서 빈객을 모시는 절차를 생략하고, 삼가례는 한 번으로 간소화하여 관례 시행에 필요한 의복이나 기물 준비에 드는 비용 부담을 줄였다. 이는 예의 본질을 지키면서도 가난한 집안의 경제적인 측면을 고려하여 현실적인 실용성을 강조한 것이다. 혼례는 시속(時俗)을 따라 친영(親迎)을 하지 않고 신부집에서 혼례식을 거행하도록 했다. 이에 따라 ‘청기(請期)’도 신랑집이 아닌 신부집에서 청하도록 하고, 폐백과 음식의 종류 및 가짓수를 간소화하여 실용적인 혼례 의식을 제시했다. 이익은 『가례』가 의례 실천의 기준이 되어야 하는 점은 인정했으나, 『가례』의 형식에 얽매이기보다는 현실적인 경제 상황에 맞추어 의례를 실행하는 것이 더 중요하다고 보았다. 이에 가난한 양반이나 일반 서인들이 『가례』를 제대로 따르기 어려운 현실에서, 경제적인 측면에 구애되지 않고 시행할 수 있는 실용적인 의례의 형식을 제시했다. 이처럼 이익은 당시 조선의 현실에 알맞은 실용적인 의례 실천을 추구하여, 형식에 치우친 허례허식(虛禮虛飾)이 아닌 진정한 실학으로서의 예학을 정립하고자 했다.
Abstract
This paper is a consideration of the coming-of-age ceremony and Marriage ceremony of Sungho Lee-Ik. Lee-Ik argued for the need for Seoingarye for the ordinary people, as the Zhu-Xi`s Family Rituals are a ritual for the nobility. In the Coming-of-Age Ceremony, the procedure for requesting officiating is omitted, and the use of hats three times has been reduced to one time, which has been simplified. In response, reduced the cost of implementing rituals at home and emphasized practicality. The wedding ceremony was held to follow the customs of the bride's house, and simplifying the types of waste bags and food and the number of branches, and offering a practical wedding ceremony. He acknowledged that the Zhu-Xi`s Family Rituals was a standard for practice, but rather than being tied to the form of ancient rituals, it was more important to carry out rituals in accordance with realistic economic conditions. So, based on the Zhu-Xi`s Family Rituals, he established a practical rite suitable for the reality of Choson Dynasty. Therefore, he proposed a practical ritual format that ordinary people could implement regardless of economic conditions. As such, his studies reflect the practicality of scholars.
