전환학습론은 우리의 경험이란 태도, 행위나 습성의 기반에서 작동하는 참조틀에서의 근본적 변화가 일어나는 과정을 설명하는 이론으로서, 심리내적 과정에서 교수방법론, 메타이론에 이르는 여러 차원으로 분화되어 왔다. 특히 전환학습론은 학습이 이루어지는 환경, 즉 사회구조적 특성이나 맥락에 관심을 돌릴 수 있는 이론적 잠재력을 가지고 있다. 그러나 한국에서의 전환학습연구는 상대적으로 인식전환의 절차적인 차원에 머무르고 있어 교육학의 지형 확장에 크게 기여하지 못했던 것이 사실이다. 이 연구는 한국 민주화과정의 중추세력이었던 386세대의 전환학습에 대한 탐색을 통해, 한국사회의 특수성이 전환학습과정에 어떻게 작동하고 있는지에 대해 밝히고 있다. 연구 결과 386의 공교육 경험의 영향에 질적으로 주목할 수 있었고, ‘집합적 전환학습’, ‘개별화 전환학습’, ‘메타 전환학습’ 등의 새로운 개념을 도출하였다. 이는 한국의 연구지형에 대한 문제제기이자, 서구중심 전환학습연구의 지평을 넓힌다는 의미를 갖는다.
Abstract
Transformative learning theory(TLT) is a typical adult learning theory representing the process of fundamental change in our lives. It succeeds to the various theories from the personal growth in psychology to grand narratives in social theory. TLT has a theoretical potentiality which includes the cultural context and societal feature of learning as well as psychological process. However, TLT in Korea has mainly focused on the methodology of teaching in standard-centered learning paradigm. This study aims at discovering the mechanism of 386’s transformative learning which is the core movement force of Korean democratization in 1987. Through analyzing the cultural context of Korean schooling experience, it discloses the distinct characteristics of TLT in Korea and suggests new concepts such as ‘collective TL’, ‘individuative TL’ and ‘meta TL’. It could be a kind of problem posing on Korean research paradigm based on the Western-centered perspective.
