다양한 분야에서 전환학습에 관한 연구가 이루어져왔으나 이를 종합적으로 고찰하는 데는 한계가 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 지금까지 국내에서 이루어진 전환학습 연구흐름을 조망하고 향후 전환학습 연구에 있어 주목할 사항이 무엇인지 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 국내에서 수행된 전환학습을 주제로 한 연구물들을 검토하여 동향을 정리하였고, 국외의 최근 연구동향을 검토함으로써 향후 주목해야 할 문제의식을 제기하였다. 연구 결과, 이론연구를 비롯하여 교사, 여성, 일터 종사자, 노인, 이민자 부모 등의 전환학습을 다룬 연구물이 지금까지 꾸준하게 이루어지고 있음을 확인하였다. 국내의 연구들은 인식차원의 변화와 더불어 존재 자체의 변화, 그리고 행동으로의 실천으로 연결됨을 밝히고 있었다. 또한 전환학습에 영향을 미치는 사회문화적 조건과 전환학습을 촉진할 수 있는 교육자, 조력자의 역할을 다루고 있었다. 향후 전환학습 연구는 전환학습 경험들의 추이를 종단적으로 주목함으로써 성인의 변화와 성장 양상을 이해할 수 있어야 할 것이며, 지속적으로 변화하고 있는 전환학습 이론에 근거하여 연구를 수행해야 할 것이다. 또한 개인의 전환학습이 사회적 맥락 속에서 확장되는 과정을 확인할 수 있도록 공동체 기반의 전환학습에 주목해야 할 것이며, 전환학습 과정에서 윤리적으로 온당한 교수학습 지원이 이루어질 수 있도록 하는 연구가 이루어져야 하겠다.
Abstract
As an intriguing topic in the field of adult education, transformative learning of adults has been studied since 1978. Since then, the interests in transformative learning continues to grow as the theory itself is changing, developing, and incorporating a variety of perspectives. The development of transformative learning as a theory has been influential in the field of lifelong learning of Korea. In this vein, the purpose of this study is to review studies on transformative learning, because there has been no reviews about the research trends regarding transformative learning in Korea. As a result of review on a good number of articles, four issues regarding transformative learning research have been found. First, there have been various research participants such as teachers, workers, the immigrant, elders, and women for understanding the nature of transformative learning. Second, perspective transformation is not just cognitive change but the development of being, and therefore, although there has not been empirical evidence, many studies address the relation between changes in cognition and practice. Third, transformative learning is a social practice, which means sociocultural conditions of individual learners might affect the aspect of transformative learning. Finally, issues for educators to foster transformative learning have been suggested. Based on findings, this study proposes themes and strategies for promoting research on transformative learning in a variety of contexts. Proposed ideas will help readers to be able to take some ideas for further studies.
