근대문학의 향유와 창조 : 『延禧』의 경우

Abstract

School magazines published at the colonial period of Korea are important materials of the modern knowledge history, which are plentiful informative resources of showing lively the enjoyment and creation of modern literature as well as youth cultural field. This essay deals with the reason which a school magazine was unsuccessful as a popular magazine, though having a intention of overcoming the exclusivity of the bulletin of only one's school, by researching Yeonhi, the school magazine of Yeonhi Joenmun-Chosun Christian College and the predecessor of the present Yeonsei University-which was a high education institute in the colonial period. Most of all, this essay is a study on the modern literary experiences of being appeared in Yeonhi, with examining the course of forming literary view as modern knowledge and enjoying modern literature for many students reading and writing for it. They seemed to have a literary theory that feelings are expressed spontaneously, which shows what meanings and tools literature had for young intellectuals of suffering existential pains from solid everydayness and realities. It shows their own intention of systematizing their own feelings that their poems had a strong pursuit for the fixed form. They sympathized with a radical opinion of 'love and marriage' and also had a thought that one should observe ordinary humane moral. In these discourses, Christianity was critisized and socialism was supported as a realization method of ethics through reforming social system. These differences from main current of literary world show the influence of romanticism or sentimentalism fairly existed in literary enthusiast base, which can be also important materials for a concrete study of 'mentality' of Korean modern literature, with making understand existence form of literature made by public in the different level from development course of literary history led by famous writers' works and activities.
