본 연구는 미국 예술계 고등학교의 실용음악 전문교과와 교과서 분석을 통하여 우리나라 실용음악 고등학교 교육의 발전을 위한 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 미국 동부, 중부, 서부의 대표적인 예술계 공립 고등학교를 한 학교씩 선택하여 전문교과 운영 실태와 교과서를 조사하였다. 미국 예술계 공립 고 등학교 실용음악 전문교과와 교과서의 특징은 실용음악의 모든 영역의 교육이 공교육에서 활발히 이루 어진다는 점과 실용음악 전공을 위한 특화된 전문 교과, 교과서의 사용을 들 수 있다. 연구의 결과 다음 과 같은 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다: (1)우리나라의 공교육에서 실용음악이 수용될 필요가 있다. (2)특화된 실용음악 전문교과의 개발이 필요하다. (3)학습자에게 적합한 실용음악 전문교과서의 개발이 필요하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the applied music curriculum and textbooks of the US art high schools reputed for the time-honored applied music education history and thereby, put forward some suggestions for development of Korean high school applied music education. For this purpose, the researcher sampled each public art high school from Eastern, Middle and Western parts of the United States and thereupon, analyzed their applied music curriculum and textbooks. Through interview and data analysis, the US high school applied music education is characterized by the public education of the applied music in every genre as well as specialized curriculum and textbooks. The results of the study implies as follows; First, public education in Korea are required to accept applied music curriculum. Second, the development of specialized subjects in applied music curriculum is needed. Third, the development of applied music textbooks which are useful for learner is needed.
