Abstract
Music education not only can meet the educational needs of a growing number of students with spe- cial needs every year and those of general students, but also accommodate the diversity of individual students. By utilizing music classes as a medium for inclusive education, there are effective ways to de- sign inclusive music classrooms and curriculum for social inclusion between students with disabilities and general students. Teachers can demonstrate the ability to maximize positive social interactions be- tween students with disabilities and general students while managing inclusive music classrooms. It is also possible to deliberately create and teach a music curriculum with both educational and social val- ues that help facilitate an inclusive classroom environment for social inclusion. Therefore, the goal of this study is to propose inclusive practices to foster an inclusive music classroom environment for social inclusion between students with disabilities and general students, as well as effective music learning goal setting and teaching and learning methods. I discuss in detail the vital roles of teachers for creating and managing a pro-social classroom climate in which natural social interactions can take place among all students as class members. Also, I argue for the necessity of setting two learning goals―music educa- tional goals and social goals―for inclusive music classes, and examine the significance and im- plementation of peer-assisted learning as teaching and learning methods.
