본 연구의 목적은 동시대 연기자 교육에 있어 연기예술의 원리와 인물/마스크의 상호보완적 관계를 고찰하 는 것이다. 마스크의 사용과 목적에 따른 의미가 함축하는 바는 공연자로서 배우의 질적 몸의 변화 과정의 중 요성을 말하는 것이다. 다시 말해서 배우가 마스크를 착용하는 행위는 허구적 시공간에서 현존하기 위해 요구 되는 특정한 몸 상태를 일컫는 것인데 이는 배우가 자신의 개인성/일상성을 벗어 던지고 극적 시공간이 요구 하는 특성에 부합해야 함을 말하는 것이다. 그런 까닭에 마스크를 사용하기 위한 배우의 몸은 그 마스크가 성 취하려는 행동에 부합되도록 훈련이 되어야 하지 그 표현이 배우의 일상성이나 개인적, 습관적 편의에서 비롯 되어서는 안 되는 것이다. 이러한 관점에서 연기예술과 마스크의 원리 속에는 과거도 미래도 있을 수 없다. 오 직 지금, 여기로써 현재만 존재할 뿐이다.
Abstract
This thesis explores the complementarity of the principles of acting and the use of a mask for con- temporary performer training/acting. This thesis begins by articulating the term mask by means of a character in interrogating its use and purpose which highlights the necessity of a performer’s qual- itative bodily transformation. Wearing a mask implies that the mask forces a performer to transform his/her body from daily to the demands of theatrical time and space. Using and adapting a mask therefore means a performer’s body has to be cultivated by means of what the character/mask wants to do rather than the performer wants to express in a sense of his/her ordinariness. In this sense there is no past or future only the present exists by means of here and now.
