Abstract
The purpose of the study was to test the structural relationship between fear of performance failure, 2×2 achievement goals, and self-handicapping strategy in dance classes, and to compare the differences of latent mean stability across dance majors. 291 dance students(19 boys, 272 girls) from arts high school participated in the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and multi-group analysis. The results of structural equation modeling analysis indicated that fear of performance failure was a variable to predict mastery-avoidance, performance- approach, and performance- avoidance, which in turn indirectly affected on self-handicapping via performance-approach and performance- avoidance goals. Mastery-approach goal negatively affected on and performance-approach andperformance-approach and performance- avoidance goal positively influenced on self-handicapping.
