Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest a selection of instructional contents and a teaching method, with a focus on traditional play songs of seasonal festivals, that can be used in the area of music in daily life centering on teaching methods of integrated subjects emphasized in the 2015 Revised Music Curriculum. More specifically, it seeks measures of integrated education aimed at the Revised National Curriculum and proposes ways of teaching the educational elements presented in the area of music in daily life under the 2015 Revised Music Curriculum in more various ways. To this end, the study analyzes elementary school music textbooks for 3rd-6th grades developed in accordance with the 2015 Revised Music Curriculum and examines contents related to traditional play songs of seasonal festivals. Based on that examination, it selects instructional contents for play songs of seasonal festivals and then sets up a teaching stages for the teaching methods of integrated subjects on traditional play songs of seasonal festivals focusing on the area of music in daily life. The process was established by dividing it into the exploration stage and the utilization stage. They are carried out activities to investigate, present, and appreciate in the exploration stage and activities to experience and share their feelings in the utilization stage. Following this stages, a practical example of teaching is designed with a focus on ‘juldarigi(tug-of-war),’ one of play songs of seasonal festivals. Two suitable class plans for 3rd~4th graders and 5th~6th graders were designed and presented. The findings of the study reveal that the play songs of seasonal festivals presented in the music textbooks are mostly composed of 'Ganggangsullae,' so the utilization of play songs of seasonal festivals in various ways is needed. Also, it is confirmed that play songs of seasonal festivals, a combination of play and song, are suitable learning materials for integrated education and the area of music in daily life in the music curriculum.
