Abstract

This paper focuses on effect of technological collaboration and securementof appropriability on product innovation performance. Additionally, moderating effect ofappropriability on technological collaboration is investigated by using Korean InnovationSurvey 2010 conducted by the Science and Technology Policy Institute in Korea. Resultshows that technological collaboration with customer and affiliate affects productinnovation performance positively. Appropriability, in addition, not only gives positiveeffect on product innovation performance by itself, but also it augments the positiveeffect of technological collaboration on product innovation performance. The results implythat technological collaboration and appropriability are the key determinant for theincrease of the product innovation performance; therefore, firms need higher level oftechnological collaboration invigoration and possession of appropriability. at last, firmsrequire profound insight concerning strategic use of technology protection methods tosecure appropriability.
