Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to test whether the mediating effect of engagement in dance classes in the relationship between university students’achievement-oriented goals in life and goal at- tainment was moderated by the level of passion and perseverance for dance. The sample comprised 378 undergraduate students (55 males, 323 females) aged 19.94±1.96 years. who completed inventories assessing their achievement-oriented goal of life goals, engagement in dance classes, grit, and goal attainment. A simple regression analysis was used to test direct and indirect effects between achieve- ment-oriented goals and goal attainment. A moderated regression analysis was used to test the media- ting effects of passion and perseverance in the relationship between achievement-oriented goals and goal attainment. Results suggest that engagement in dance classes has a mediation effect in the rela- tionship between achievement-oriented goals and goal attainment. Undergraduate students’passion and perseverance for dance moderated the effect of achievement- oriented goals on goal attainment via engagement in dance classes. In conclusion, university students majoring in dance should have the high levels of achievement-oriented goals for life and grit in order to attain their goals.
