본 연구는 교양 대학에서 AI 및 뉴미디어 기술을 활용한 희곡 수업 방법을 진행하고, 그 의미와 교육적 효 과를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본고는 다양한 전공의 교양 교육 학습자들이 셰익스피어의 희곡『오셀로』 의 서사와 인물의 특징을 이해하게 한 이후, 토론 방식을 통해 새로운 문제의식과 아이디어를 창출할 수 있도 록 계획했다. 이어 교양 교육 학습자들은 조별로 AI 및 뉴미디어 기술을 활용해 원작을 각색한 ‘영상 작품’을 창작하고 발표했다. AI 기술을 활용한 희곡 교육 방법은 학습자들의 흥미를 높이고, 작품의 주제와 사건, 갈등 에 몰입하게 만들었다. 본 연구는 학습자들이 발견한 문제의식에 대해 자신의 생각을 자유롭게 표현할 수 있는 계기를 만들고, 학습자들이 인간의 다양한 모습과 사회 양상을 이해할 수 있도록 설계된 예술 교육 과정을 다 룬다. 작품 『오셀로』는 셰익스피어의 4대 비극 중 하나이다. 셰익스피어는 작품을 통해 ‘근대적 인간’의 모습 을 작품으로 구현하고자, 선과 악, 믿음과 배신, 사랑과 살인 등의 다양한 사건과 상황을 그리고 있다. 이는 인간에 대한 탐구, 근대에 대한 비판적 사고를 반영한 것이며, 이를 독자나 관객과 소통하기 위함이다. 따라서 교양 교육 학습자들은 이 작품에 내포된 주제와 비극적 서사를 독해하며, 역설적으로 바람직한 인간상을 생각 하고 올바른 사회를 위한 방법을 모색하게 된다. 이를 토대로 다양한 전공의 학습자들은 AI 및 뉴미디어 매체 를 활용해 새로운 방식으로 작품을 접하고, 사고력과 창의적 문제해결 능력을 발전시킬 수 있다. 또한 토론 및 쓰기, AI 영상 작품을 제작하고 발표하여, 서로의 문제의식을 공감할 수 있다. 이러한 교육 방법은 학습자들의 융복합적 활동을 통해 각자의 주체성을 증진시키며, 타자와의 협력과 배려를 익힐 수 있다.
Abstract
This study explores the educational implications and effectiveness of integrating AI and new media technologies into theatre education at a liberal arts college. Designed for students from diverse aca- demic backgrounds, the course focused on Shakespeare’s Othello, guiding learners to analyze its nar- rative structure and character development. Through discussion-based learning, students formulated new questions and perspectives on the play. Subsequently, they collaborated in groups to create and present AI-generated video adaptations of Othello, utilizing new media technologies. The integration of AI into theatre education enhanced student engagement, fostering a deeper immersion in the play’s themes, conflicts, and moral dilemmas. This study examines an arts curriculum that encourages learners to articulate their thoughts freely, explore societal and humanistic issues, and develop crit- ical perspectives on literature and culture. As one of Shakespeare’s four great tragedies, Othello ad- dresses fundamental human experiences, including morality and corruption, trust and betrayal, love and violence. Through this work, Shakespeare constructs a vision of "modern humanity," prompting critical reflection on human nature and social justice. By engaging with the themes and tragic narra- tive of Othello, students are encouraged to contemplate ethical ideals and the construction of a just society. The use of AI and new media offers an innovative approach to literary interpretation, foster- ing interdisciplinary thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Furthermore, through collaborative discussions, writing exercises, and the production of AI-assisted video adaptations, students develop a sense of agency, enhance their ability to work in teams, and cultivate empathy by engaging with di- verse perspectives. This pedagogical model demonstrates the potential of AI-driven theatre education to enrich liberal arts learning through interdisciplinary and interactive methodologies.
