Abstract
This paper investigates the pedagogical potential of integrating technological media into creative writing education, with a particular focus on artistic creation and storytelling. The central premise of this work is to explore how such media defined here as both artistic tools and artificial intelligence AI based creative programs can be leveraged as productive agents in the literary arts classroom. In the context of the post Fourth Industrial Revolution educational environment, and in response to shifting curricular policies across higher education, creative writing programs have undergone notable transformations. Storytelling has emerged as a central pedagogical theme, giving rise to a variety of newly established courses closely linked to technology driven media. Drawing on the author’s instructional practices, this study outlines teaching methodologies designed to enhance students’ artistic imagination and creative competencies. These include hybrid models of “art and creative writing education” and “AI and creative writing education,” supported by classroom-based creative exercises. In particular, the research examines the evolution of collaborative authorship and creative writing practices before and after the advent of ChatGPT, highlighting changes in both process and learning outcomes. The findings suggest that technological media, especially AI, can broaden students’ understanding of literature and the arts, foster engagement with the ludic and imaginative aspects of literary practice, and enable new forms of co-creation between humans and machines. Such instructional approaches also prompt fundamental and existential questions about the nature of literary and artistic creation, stimulate debate on the co-evolution of art and technology, and raise ethical considerations concerning copyright in the digital age. Ultimately, this paper presents an experimental and hypothesis driven model of instruction rather than one grounded in established literary theory or standardized pedagogy. It argues for sustained scholarly dialogue and iterative instructional experimentation in response to the rapid advancement of generative AI technologies. By maintaining a balanced perspective on both the promises and challenges of technological integration, creative writing education can remain adaptive, ethically grounded, and artistically vibrant in the evolving digital landscape.
