Abstract

With the rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI), narrative creation is experienc ing a fundamental shift from individual, human-centered authorship to a collaborative model involving both human creators and AI systems. This study investigates the theoretical interconnectivity between essential storytelling concepts and prompt design as a new compositional interface in the era of AI co-authorship. The primary aim is to explore how core narrative elements—logline, controlling idea, plot structure, Enneagram-based character type, and character arc—can be restructured into a formal prompt language that enables meaningful collaboration between humans and generative AI. While generative AI models such as GPT have been widely adopted as storytelling tools in the crea tive industries, academic discourse on the narrative logic and conceptual frameworks necessary for effective prompt design remains limited. To address this gap, this study proposes a hierarchical nar rative structure that transforms traditional tacit storytelling knowledge into explicit, AI-readable prompt modules. In this framework, the narrative flow progresses through five sequential stages: (1) identifying a logline that encapsulates the core conflict and character identity; (2) articulating a con trolling idea that defines the story’s moral value system; (3) structuring the plot around value shifts; (4) assigning character types based on the Enneagram system; and (5) designing a character arc through the tension between Lie and Truth. These stages are then implemented into prompt design protocols that align AI output with human narrative intention. This research emphasizes that prompts should not be reduced to command-level instructions. Rather, they must function as a structured design language capable of encapsulating the creator’s worldview, emotional logic, and ethical judgment. In this regard, prompt design is presented as a second language of storytelling—one that mediates human-machine co-creation in a computational narrative ecology. The study also outlines practical applications of this model in creative writing education, content devel opment workflows, and AI-supported IP creation. By embedding the prompt into the core of both theo ry and practice, this study advocates for a paradigm shift in authorship, redefining the human creator not simply as a user of AI tools, but as a narrative architect and prompt designer.
