중학생을 위한 튜터링 프로그램이 수학교과 학업성취 향상에 미치는 효과

초록

본 연구에서는 튜터링 프로그램이 중학생들의 수학교과 학업성취에 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구대상은 전라북도에 위치한 인구 60만 도시인 J시의 중학교 1~3학년 180명을 대상으로 실험집단 90명과 통제집단 90명을 선정하였다. 튜터링 프로그램은 3개월간 매주 월, 수, 목, 금요일 점심시간을 이용하여 1~2학년은 12시30분부터 13시까지, 그리고 3학년은 13시부터 13시30분까지 수행하였다. 담임교사와 수학동아리 교사에 의해 선정된 튜터는 튜티를 지도할 때 수학 문제 풀이 중심의 지식 전달보다는 자신이 수학 문제를 해결하면서 얻은 경험을 나누라고 하였다. 구체적인 지도방법은 중재학습경험의 의도성, 초월성, 의미성의 중재 원리를 적용하도록 하였다. 본 연구의 효과 검증을 위한 통계 분석은 t검증과 공분산분석을 이용하였으며, 그 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 튜터링 프로그램은 중학생의 수학교과 학업성취를 향상시키는 데 긍정적인 효과를 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 튜터링 프로그램에 참여한 실험집단 1학년, 2학년, 3학년의 수학교과 사전-사후 평균 점수의 차이는 유의하게 나타났다. 그러나 학년 간 수학교과의 사전 점수를 공변량으로 통제한 통계결과에서는 학년 간의 유의한 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 튜터링 프로그램에 참여한 실험집단 튜터, 튜티의 수학교과 사전-사후 평균 점수의 차이는 유의하게 나타났다. 그러나 튜터‧튜티의 수학교과 사전 점수를 공변량으로 통제한 통계결과에서는 튜터․튜티 간의 유의한 차이가 없었다.

Abstract

This study was to verify the effect of tutoring program on the academic achievement of middle school students. For this study, We selected 90 experimental and 90 control groups as a study subject from grade 1 to 3 among 180 middle school students in J city with a population of 600,000 in Jeollabuk-do. We proceeded the tutoring program at lunch time on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week during the three-month period. First and second grader conducted from 12:30 to 13:00 and third graders conducted from 13:00 to 13:30. The tutors selected by the homeroom teacher and the mathematical club teacher were instructed tutee to share his experience of solving mathematical problems rather than transferring knowledge centered on mathematics. We instructed to use concrete instruction methods applying the intervention principle of intentionality, transcendence and meanig of the mediated learning experience. As the statistical analysis for the effect validation of this study, we used t-test and analysis of covariance. The results of the study were as follows: First, the tutoring programs have been shown to have a positive effect in improving middle school students' academic achievement in mathematics. Second, there was significant difference between pre and post-test scores in the first, second, and third grades of the experimental group participating in the tutoring program. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the grades in the statistical results that controlled pre-scoring score of the mathematics subject between grades by ANCOVA.. there was significant difference between pre and post-test scores of experimental group tutor and tutee participating in tutoring program. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the tutor and tutee in the statistical results that controlled the pre-scoring scores of the mathematics subject of the tutor and tutee by ANCOVA.
