Abstract

This study aims to examine the parallel dual mediation effects of hope and life satisfaction in the relationship between elderly lifelong education participation and quality of life. The data were collected through a survey of 266 facility users selected via purposive sampling from 17 welfare facilities located in the Chungcheong region. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS PC+ Win ver. 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro ver. 4.2, and the research findings are as follows. First, the difference test results indicated that quality of life showed significant differences based on gender and age, whereas no significant differences were observed based on marital status or educational level. Second, correlation analysis among key variables revealed a positive correlation between lifelong education participation, hope, and quality of life, as well as between hope and quality of life. Conversely, life satisfaction showed a negative correlation with lifelong education participation, hope, and quality of life. Third, the analysis of the parallel dual mediation effects of hope and life satisfaction in the relationship between lifelong education participation and quality of life confirmed that both hope and life satisfaction mediated this relationship. Based on these findings, the study discusses strategies to enhance life satisfaction among the elderly.
