본고는 목회상담 현장에서 흔히 부딪치는 신앙적 자기 부정와 심리학적 자기 긍정 사이의 갈등에 관하여 신학적 및 심리학적 고찰을 시도한다. 특히 자기 초월의 개념을 사용하여 인간의 심리학적 및 신앙적 성장의 과정은 자기 부정과 자기 긍정 사이의 변증법적 상호작용의 과정임을 보이고자 한다. 자기 초월이 자기 부정과 자기 긍정 사이의 변증법적 상호작용의 과정임을 보이기 위해 신학자 틸리히(P. Tillich)의 자기 개념과 자기 초월의 개념을 설명한다. 이어서 유아의 자기가 어떤 과정을 거쳐서 성숙하는가에 대해 관심을 가지는 정신분석학적 대상관계이론가들을 통해 자기 성장의 과정이야말로 자기 통합과 자기 변형의 변증법적 과정임을 보이고자 한다. 본고는 인간의 삶에 있어서 자기 초월의 네 가지 주요한 계기를 자기와의 만남(self-relatedness), 타자와의 만남, 한계와의 만남, 하나님과의 만남으로 보고, 각 자기 초월의 계기에 있어서 자기 통합과 자기 변형의 두 가지 과정이 모두 적절하게 이루어져야 함을 강조한다.
Abstract
This study is an attempt to deal with the conflict between self-negation and self-affirmation that is commonly faced in pastoral care and counseling field. I use the concept of self-transcendence to show that the psychological and spiritual process of human growth is a dialectic interaction between self-negation and self-affirmation. Paul Tillich sees the basic ontological structure of human life as the self-world polarity. The self is a centered whole that is open to the world. In the self-world polarity the self is to be both self-centered and self-transcendent. Tillich says that self-affirmation and self-transcendence is totally integrated in absolute faith in God, The psychoanalytic object relations theorists such as M. Klein, D. W. Winnicott and H. Kohut show how self-integration and self-transmutation are dialectically interconnected in human growth process. Though psychologists are primarily concerned with self-affirmation and theologians are with self-negation, this study proposes that both parties must have regard for both self-affirmation and self-negation to maintain a balanced perspective about human psychological and spiritual growth.
