Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe the essential features of the existential understanding of human beings of May and Tillich in the dialectical dialogue between them. The used methodology is based on the presumption that the general perspectives of the human existence begins from the existential understanding of the individuality and vice versa. This paper also is to discuss how to continuously and virtually progress of the transforming cycles toward the creative living as the highest values in human's existential living life. The dialogue between May and Tillich is to focus on the few essential features of the human existence. The emphasized concepts in the analogical dialogue are about anxiety and finiteness, tension of polarity and estrangement, acceptance and salvation, self-actualization and a new being in Jesus Christ, integration and courage, the creative life and the spiritual presence in life. This dialectic dialogue used in this paper is for the purpose of the completion and the enlargement of the self-potentiality based on May's limited perspectives about the existential and psychological self-understanding with Tillich's existential perspectives based on the Spirituality and theology. And it is to discover the mystical nature of the original personality from God. Finally, this study is to suggest the significant values for the Christian existential counselor's attitudes.
