“역사 상황과 교회의 정치권력화”는 기독교 역사에서 반드시 청산하고 넘어가야할 대목이다. 신학은 한 때 모든 학문의 출발로 그 영예를 가지고 있지만, 정치와 결합될 때 비극을 탄생시킨 주범이 되기도 했다. 교회의 정치권력화는 종종 신학을 통해 오판하게 되는데, 그런 의미에서 속죄의 대상이 된다. 기독교는 사랑과 공의의 주이신 예수 그리스도를 본받는 삶에서부터 출발한다. 그런데 교회가 정치화, 권력화 되면서 문제를 드러내었다. 역사와 시대의 흐름 속에서 한 신앙 단체가 체계와 구조를 갖추는 것이 필연적 과정이라 하더라도 기독교가 변화의 종교인 만큼 역기능적 현상을 극복했어야 했다. 유감스럽게도 기독교는 역사 속에서 그 반대 모습을 보여준 경우가 적지 않았다. 1930년대 독일 극우민족주의 지배 아래 있던 독일 교회가 그 대표적 사례에 속한다 하겠다. 1930년대 독일 기독교는 1차 세계대전, 바이마르공화국의 실패에서 온 민족적 좌절감을 신앙운동으로 극복하려했다. 국가프로테스탄트(Nationalprotestant)라는 루터교 전통에 힘입어 그동안 국가, 민족적 단결에 기독교가 긍정적으로 역할해 왔다. 이 과정은 국가적 위기를 맞이하였을 때 교회가 취할 수 있는 자연스런 태도였을지 모른다. 문제는 이 운동을 성경적 세계관에 근거해 행동하지 않았다는 점에 있다. 즉 독일 교회지도자들은 구체적 정당, 즉 나치의 힘을 빌어 성취하려했다는 점에 있었다. 의식있는 교인들은 나치가 처음부터 불온한 사상을 기반으로한 정당임을 알았다. 그런데 많은 기독교인들은 히틀러의 나치당에 찬성표를 던지므로 국가 부흥을 기대하였다. 더구나 비극적인 일은 나치가 주장하는 독일 부흥이 기독교가 추구하는 부흥과 맥이 같다고 본 목회자, 신학자들이 앞다투어 성경, 신학을 편집했다. 교회 안에 이른바 어용신학이요 극우파 성경 해석이 등장한 것이다. 신학이 나치의 정치논리를 옹호해준 결과를 낳았다. 얼마 뒤 교회가 나치의 본색을 알아차렸지만 그때는 역사를 되돌리기에는 역부족이었다. 독일 교회는 친나치 제국교회와 반나치 고백교회로 분열되는 비극을 맞이했다. 맹목적적 민족주의, 극우파적 민족 재건을 향한 열심은 성경을 편리하게 인용했고, 해석했다. 성경과 신학은 나치 이데올로기에 유린되었고, 그 결과 교회는 나치가 국민을 전쟁에 몰아넣을 때 제대로 비판도, 저항도 할 수 없었다. 그들의 “실용적 기독교”는 어떻게 독일 교회가 오판하게 되고 나치에 이용당하게 되었는지 분명하게 보여주고 있다. 이러한 증거는 현재와 미래 교회사에 교훈과 경고로 삼지 않을 수 없는 대목이다.
Abstract
“Historical Situation and Politicization of Church” is a theme of atonement that is in christian history to be solved. The Christianity begin through discipleship of Jesus Christ who is the Lord of Love and Justice. By the way the church shows many problematics while it got political power. It may be naturally when a religious institution in historical process is getting inner system and structure. However the christian church should overwelm dysfunctional phenomena because it ought to be a religion of transformation. On the other side the christian church brought often miserable tragedy. One of those phenomena is the german extreme right christianity in the age of 1930. The german people at the time of 1930 will overwelm national frustration that came from The 1. World War and the Weimarer Republic. They believed in this way to achieve their goal. But they have leaned on political party, not on christian principles. Many german christian looked for national revival. They dared to give their decision for Hitler, the Nazi party leader. German extrem nationalism in 1930 showed a tragic example. The german christian tried their frustration and social anxiety getting from the 1. World War and The Weimarer Republik through faith movement. It may be a natural way that the church took. But it cannot deny their fault that they tried to use political power of party. Many german christian gave their vote for Hitler and hoped to get revival. Many theologian thought so that there are same way between nazi and christianity. We cannot ignore that extreme theology makes christian faith unfaithful. It can bring the christian a irreparable loss. We also should remember that D.Bonhoeffer said: If the church as community of Christ will ragain its essence, is a church always the church its self forever. The german history show not just past. It signs for today and tomorrow for Korean church. It will teach us going into the future, to keep the evangelism in any historical situations und to hold the faith in order to obey the Word of Jesus Christ.
