초록

이 논문은 한국기독교장로회가 1950-60년대에 헌법을 개정한 과정과 그에 따른 특징을 연구한 것이다. 한국기독교장로회는 1953년 호헌총회와 1954년 대한기독교장로회 총회로 출범한 이후 1950-60년대에 헌법 개정을 통해서 교단의 법제적 틀을 정비했다. 이 논문은 크게 두 부분으로 나뉘는데, 첫째는 1950-60년대에 헌법 중 정치 부분을 개정한 내용을 다루고 둘째는 1967년에 시작해서 1972년 에 완결된 신앙 고백 선언서 채택을 살펴보고자 한다. 헌법 중 정치의 개정을 통해서는 부목사제 실시, 장로와 집사직에 대한 여성 허용, 학습 제도 폐지, 여성 목사 안수, 총회의 강도사 고시 주관 등의 변화가 있었다. 신앙 고백 선언서 제정은 미국 연합 장로교회가 새로 작성한 1967년 신앙 고백과 밀접한 관련을 가지고 시작되었는데, ‘시대와 장소’ 라는 지향점을 가지고 작성되었다. 이 신앙 고백 선언서는 1907년에 대한예수교 장로회 노회가 대한 장로교회 신경을 채택한 이후 처음으로 다시 제정된 신앙 고백이며 기장 교단의 에큐메니컬 운동과 사회 참여, 민주화 운동 과 인권 운동 등 교단의 진로와 관계된 신학적 기반을 제공한 신앙 고백이다. 결국, 기장 교단의 헌법 정치 개정과 신앙 고백 선언서 제정은 교단이 출범하면서 천명한 자유의 정신을 충실히 지향하고 있다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the constitutional amendment process of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea in the 1950s and 1960s and its resulting characteristics. The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea, held a general assembly to protect its constitution in 1953, launched the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Korea in 1954, and arranged its legal framework through constitutional amendments in the 1950s and 1960s. This paper consists of two major parts: the first one deals with the revisionary content of political sections in its constitution in the 1950s and 1960s, and the other examines the adoption of the statement of faith confession that began in 1967 and was completed in 1972. The revision of political sections in the constitution brought a series of changes including the introduction of the curate system, allowance of women for the elder and deacon positions, abolishment of the Catechumens, ordination of female ministers, and holding of the probationer exam at the general assembly. The establishment of its statement of faith began with its close relations with the confession of faith newly developed by the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America in 1967. It was written with an orientation toward “time and place.” It was the first newly established confession of faith since 1907 when the presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in Korea adopted its creeds and provided a theological basis for its path including the Gijang denomination’s Ecumenical Movement, social participation, and democratization and human rights movements. The Gijang denomination’s revision of political sections in the constitution and its statement of faith were fully oriented toward the spirit of freedom clarified at the time of its establishment.
