본 논문은 한국에서 세계 기독교 연구의 수용과 특징 그리고 그 한계와 향후 과제를 논하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 본 논문은 다음의 연구 절차를 따른다. 첫째, 2장은 세계 기독교와 관련하여 여러 학자들이 있지만 한국인 학자들에게 영향력을 많이 끼친 영국 에든버러 대학교의 앤드류 월스(Andrew F. Walls), 데이비드 커(David A. Kerr), 잭 톰슨(T. Jack Thompson), 그리고 브라이언 스탠리(Brian Stanley)와 미국 보스턴 대학교(Boston University)의 데이나 로버트(Dana L. Robert)를 중심으로 각각 그들의 연구가 무엇이며, 어떻게 그들의 연구가 한국인 연구자들에게 반영되었는지 연구하고자 한다. 그리고 그러한 한국인 연구자들의 공통된 연구 특징과 문제점이 무엇인지 살펴보고자 한다. 둘째, 3장은 앞으로 한국에서 세계 기독교 연구의 향후 과제에 대하여 논하고자 한다. 본 논문의 공헌은 세계 기독교가 한국에 수용된 지 20여 년이 되고 있는 시점에서 그에 대한 연구를 되돌아보는 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to organize the acceptance and characteristics of studies on World Christianity in Korea and to discuss its problems and developmental potential. To achieve this, I will follow these procedures: First, section two explores Andrew F. Walls’ (University of Edinburgh), David A. Kerr’s, T. Jack Thompson’s, Brian Stanley’s and Dana L. Robert’s (Boston University) core ideas, representative figures of World Christianity and how their work each was reflected by their Korean followers. Moreover, I will examine what the problems of studies of World Christianity thus far are. Second, section three discusses how studies on World Christianity can be developed in Korea in order to overcome the problems. The contribution of this study is to reflect on the past 20 years of studies on World Christianity in Korea and to give some ideas for continually developing the studies in the future.
