한국기독교사 연구 방법론과 세계 기독교 역사 기록학의 가능성 - 통합적 해석과 다학제적 방법론 부재를 중심으로 -

한국 기독교사 연구는 방법론적 차원에서 크게 교회사를 전공한 신학자들의 신학적 방법론과 한국사를 전공한 역사학자들의 실증주의적 방법론으로 나눌 수 있다. 그러한 연구 방법론들과 관련하여 두 가지 현상이 공통적으로 발견되는데, 바로 통합적 해석과 다학제적 연구의 부족이다. 이러한두 가지 공통적인 현상들이 「교회사학회지」와 「한국기독교와 역사」학회지에서도 발견된다는 사실이다. 아직 이에 대한 구체적인 연구배경과 그 문제점에 대한 분석이 없으며, 최근에 기독교 학문에서 통합적 해석과 다학제적연구를 기초로 하는 세계 기독교학(The Study of World Christianity) 이그러한 경향성을 극복하고자 등장했지만, 그러한 연구가 정말 기존의 연구를 어느 정도 대체할 수 있을지에 대한 논의가 부족한 상태이다. 본 연구는한국 기독교사 연구 안에서 신학과 역사의 통합적 해석과 신학과 역사를넘는 다학제적 방법론의 부재의 경향성에 대하여 보여주고, 그러한 경향성의 연구 배경과 문제점이 무엇인지 연구를 하고, 그리고 세계 기독교 역사기록학이 그러한 경향성을 극복하는데 대체 가능한 연구가 될 수 있을지그 가능성을 논하고자 한다.
Abstract
Studies on Korean Christian history can be categorized methodologically into two main analytical tools. First is the theological approach to Korean Christian history used primarily by church history theologians. Second is the positivist approach to Korean Christian history employed mainly by historians of Korean history. I have observed two common phenomena in their studies: 1) the lack of integrative interpretation and 2) the lack of multidisciplinary studies. Moreover, these two phenomena have been found in articles of Korean Christian history published in the Korean Church History Society journal and the Korean Christianity and History journal. At present, the background and problem of the two phenomena have not yet been researched, despite the development of the study of world Christianity based on integrative and multidisciplinary methods. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to show a tendency of the two phenomena, analyze the background and problem of the lack of integrative interpretation and multidisciplinary studies, and to explore the possibility of the World Christian historiography as an alternative model to overcome the two phenomena.
