이 논문은 구약에 나타난 축복의 의미를 탐구한다. 구약신학과 특히 교회현장에서 축복주제가 중요함에도 불구하고, 아직까지 구약의 축복신학에 대한 포괄적인 연구는 이루어지지 않고 있다. 구약의 축복은 세 그룹으로 나뉠 수 있다: 1) 하나님이 인간에게 복을 주는 경우, 2) 인간이 다른 인간을 축복하는 경우, 3) 인간이 하나님을 축복(찬양)하는 경우. 첫 번째의 축복은 영적인 차원과 물질적인 차원 모두를 포함한다. 구약의 하나님의 축복은 흔히 번영, 힘 그리고 특히 풍요나 다산이라는 이익의 개념으로 이해되어왔다. 그러나 축복의 본질적인 의미는 하나님과 인간의 관계이다. 하나님의 축복이 갖는 물질적인 차원은 하나님의 호의를 보여주는 가시적인 표시일 뿐이다. 물질적 차원도 중요하지만 이는 이차적인 것이다. 두 번째 축복은 인간이 인간을 축복하는 경우이다. 인간의 축복은 그 자체에 주술적인 힘이나 자발적으로 성취시키는 힘이 내제되어있는 것이 아니다. 대다수의 인간의 축복은 기원적인 바람이다. 기원적인 축복은 항상 하나님이 복주시기를 소원하거나 기도하는 것이다. 하나님만이 복의 궁극적인 원천으로 그려진다. 세 번째 축복은 인간이 하나님을 축복/찬양하는 경우이다. 인간이 하나님을 축복한다는 것은 곧 하나님을 찬양하는 것을 말하는 것이다. 하나님을 찬양하는 것은 하나님의 은혜에 대한 자연스러운 응답으로 간주된다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of the Blessing in the Old Testament. Despite of importance of the Blessing in the Old Testament Theology and especially in the Church, we do not have till now comprehensive works on the Blessing Theology in the Old Testament. The Blessing in the Old Testament is to be classified into three groups: 1) God blessing humans, 2) humans blessing other humans, 3) humans blessing/praising God. The first group("God blessing humans") includes the spiritual dimension and the physical(or material) dimension. Blessing in the Old Testament has been most frequently understood in terms of benefits conveyed-prosperity, power and above all fertility. However, the primary factor of blessing is the statement of relationship(Gemeinschaft) between God and humans. The physical dimension of God`s blessing is a visible sign of his favor. This focus on the content of the benefit is viewed as secondary. The second group is the category of "humans blessing other humans." This blessing never have a magical or self-fulfilling power. The majority of human blessings are optative. The optative blessings are always wishes or prayers for God to bless. Only God is pictured as the ultimate source of blessing. The third group represents humans blessing/praising God. "Humans blessing God" means the praise of God. The praise of God is portrayed as man`s natural response to God`s benefaction-in response to a specific act of God in the course of everyday life.
