Abstract

In the article I have attempted to analyze the ethical thoughts of Byung Mu Ahn, who had acted as specialist for the New Testament, but is known worldwide as founder of the Minjung theology. I have pointed out some motifs of his ethical thoughts, which had been developed even before the formation of his Minjung theology, but had flourished in his own minjung-theological articulation. Holding on these motifs I would explain systematically his bible ethics, his decision ethics from an eschatological perspective, his approach to love as criterion of ethical judgment, his ethics of conscience and responsibility, his political ethics and his ethics of the public. Even though people would speak of the civil society rather than of the reality of the Minjung nowadays, I think that Ahn’s Minjung-theology and ethics couldn’t lose their persuasiveness. It is because the reality of the Minjung has not be overcome in the process of globalization, but has been hidden only in the eyes of the citizenry, which would not see into it.Therefore it is important and necessary to make alive the ethical thoughts of Byung Mu Ahn in the struggle for more democracy, more justice and more sustainability in the process of globalization. More attention must be paid to his ethics of the public especially, because they could help find some languages, with which people could articulate clearly the sovereignty of the Minjung over capital and state. On the ground of such ethics people could back up the thoughts of global citizenship, basic income of all mankinds, life-oriented employment of capital etc.
