The Niti file has changed the conventional root canal shaping method using stainless steel (SS) files. Niti files are 2~3 times more flexible and stronger than SS files in the same size. Since they have a low elastic modulus, they can reduce deformation due to elastic memory applied to the root tip. Niti files have increased the efficiency and safety of root canal treatment with their superelasticity, flexibility, and durability, and they are still being developed technologically and materially. In order to improve the properties of Niti files, improvements have been made in the cross-section, design, surface treatment, heat treatment, and movement. In this paper, we will examine the characteristics of NiTi rotary files by generation and the trends of recently developed NiTi rotary files.
