창녕지역의 사회집단의 성격과 정치적 영향을 파악하기 위하여 여러 고고학자들은 창녕지역양식 토기의 특징과 공간분포에 많은 관심을 가져왔다. 우리는 창녕양식 토기의 생산과 분배와 관련된 생산체계를 논의하기 위하여 두 가지 방향으로 접근하였다. 첫째는 창녕지역에서 출토된 창녕양식토기와 청도 성곡리의 그것과 양식적 속성의 비교이다. 둘째는 박편의 보강재 부분 관찰로 암석분류를 하고, 점토 부분 화학성분 분서을 위하여 엘렉트론 마이크로프로브로 분석하였다. 창녕양식토기의 양식적 비교는 두 유적 모두 몇몇 차이점을 제외하고는 동일한 변천상을 나타내고 있었다. 암석분류의 결과는 두 유적간에 보강재와 점토의 구성이 유사하게 나타났다. 그러나 화학성분은 두 유적이 서로 다르게 나타났다. 이것은 서로 다른 제작소의 도공들 간의 지역을 넘어서 양식적 정보를 공유했으며, 단위 생산지 간에 교환이 이루어지지 않았고 자급자족했음을 의미한다. 우리의 접근이 소량의 시료분석이므로 다소 시험적인 점은 있지만, 장차 더 많은 시료들의 분석결과가 확보된다면, 창녕양식 토기의 생산체계가 보다 구체화될 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The feature and spatial distribution of Changnyeong type pottery have been of interest to archaeologists who seek to investigate the nature of Changnyeong social groups and political influence. For our discussion, we approach the production and distribution of Changnyeong type pottery in two ways. First, we use a stylistic comparison of the Changnyeong type pottery from sites in Changnyeong region with that from the Cheongdo Seonggok. Second, we establish the unit areas of production of the Changnyeong type pottery using petrographic thin-section analysis of the temper fraction and chemical assays of the clay fraction with an electron microprobe. The stylistic comparison showed that the transition to Changnyeong type pottery occurred at the same time at both sites with few stylistic differences between them. The petrographic results indicated similar proportions of tempering material and clay between Changnyeong and Cheongdo, but the clay chemistry in the pottery from both sites was different from one another. We infer a sharing of stylistic information across the region among potters who labored in different ceramic workshops. We see a production system by self-sufficiency that Changnyeong type pots were not exchanged among the regions that are the unit areas of production. We consider our results to be preliminary because our sample sizes are small, but if in future studies they can be corroborated, the production system for Changnyeong type pottery will take shape for the first time.
