초록
This paper aims to approach the historical relationships between theMuslim and Christian worlds from a new perspective through analyzingseveral historical cases of political and military alliance between the twoworlds from the seventh century until 1798, in which Napoleon invadedEgypt. Many scholars like Samuel P. Huntington, who support the theoryof conflict, claim that there have been ceaseless confrontations between theWestern and Islamic civilizations for more than a thousand years. To provethat, Samuel P. Huntington enumerated in The Clash of Civilizationsseveral historical examples such as the Wars of the Reconquista in Spain, the Crusades, and Ottoman Turks' siege of Vienna. To refute the theory ofconflict mentioned above, this paper deals with four cases of Muslim andChristian alliance such as the ‘Abbasid–Carolingian Alliance,’ the‘Muslim‐Christian Alliance in Spain,’ the ‘Frankish‐Muslim Allianceduring the Crusades,’ and the ‘Franco‐Ottoman Alliance.’
