초록
Taiwan and South Korea were both once ruled by Japan and both remain in a confrontation between democracy and communism. There are thus many lessons for the two countries to learn from each other, including on overcoming economic difficulties, regaining self-confidence, and establishing democratic systems. Culture is one of the fundamental factors for establishing a country, and though it takes a long time to form and maintain, it inevitably affects the country’s development. Movies, which often include specific, sometimes cultural, messages can be disseminated quickly—even more so today because of the boom in over-the-top media services. The Korean Wave has been developing for more than 30 years and has created a cultural whirlwind, not only in Asia but also in Europe and the Americas. More and more people are thus becoming curious about the methods and policies of the Korean government and cultural industries, and although the film industry now faces big challenges in technology and marketing, their efforts and achievements are nevertheless worth studying.
