Abstract

"Many engineering colleges in developing countries operate theory-oriented curricula due to insufficient practical education environments and lack of faculty competence in practical education. As a result, engineering college education fails to meet the industry’s demand for practical workforce skills, ultimately hindering national economic development. This study introduces a case of curriculum revision toward a practice-oriented approach at a specific engineering university in Ethiopia, a developing country, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and examines its significance. One of the key goals of international development cooperation is to ensure the sustainability of its outcomes. The curriculum revision introduced in this study was led by the faculty members of the recipient college, with Korean experts providing consultation and guidance. This approach not only enhanced the faculty’s ability to develop and operate their own curricula but also increased the likelihood of sustainable curriculum improvement. This case study is expected to contribute to the effective implementation of educational Official Development Assistance (ODA), which has been steadily increasing in Korea."
