이 연구는 교육부에 의해 추진되고 있는 LiFE의 한계점을 찾아 개선 방안을 마련하려는 목적에서 진행되었다. 여러 가지 다양한 선행 사업들을 토대로 등장한 LiFE가 대학 체제의 평생교육적 전환이라는 중요한 의의를 내포한 사업임에도 불구하고, 그러한 의의를 제대로 구현해 내고 있지 못하다는 진단 하에, 연구자는 여러 가지 관련 문헌 분석을 통해 대학의 평생교육적 전환의 의미를 구체화하고 그것을 준거로 LiFE 사업 내용의 한계점을 찾는 작업을 진행하였다. 그 결과, 연구자는 현행 LiFE가 성인학습자의 개방 입학 허용과 유연한 학사운영체제 구축, 성인 학습자 맞춤식 지원체제 구축 등에서 대학의 평생교육 체제 전환과 일치되는 사업 내용을 갖고 있지만, 성인학습자 전담 조직 설치를 통한 학위 취득과정 운영을 의무화하고, 학생을 정원제로 관리하며, 학생 규모의 확장 및 유지를 강조하고 있다는 점에서 대학의 평생교육적 체제 전환에 상치되는 한계점임을 확인할 수 있었다. 향후 이 사업이 대학의 평생교육적 체제 전환을 효과적으로 추동해 낼 수 있으려면 학령기 학생과 성인의 통합교육을 전제로 하는 여러 다양한 비학위과정 중심으로 사업의 재설계가 필요함을 지적하였다.
Abstract
This study was conducted with the aim of finding the limitations of LiFE, which is being promoted by the Ministry of Education and developing measures to improve it. Although LiFE is an important project with the potential for lifelong educational transformation of universities, the researcher determines that LiFE has not yet fully implemented that significance. The researcher conducted work to embody the meaning of the lifelong educational transformation of universities, and to come up with measures to improve it. As a result of the study, the researcher confirmed that the current LiFE has project contents consistent with the lifelong educational transformation of universities, in allowing open admissions for adult learners, establishing a flexible academic operating system, and building a customized support system for adult learners. However, on the contrary, the researcher also could confirm that the LiFE has contents inconsistent with the lifelong educational transformation of universities, especially in mandatory operation of degree courses through the organization dedicated to adult learners and student management system on a quota basis. The researcher pointed out that the project should be redesigned focusing on various non-degree programs that presuppose the inclusive education of school-age students and adults.
