고전 전산화에 있어서 신출한자의 유형과 처리 방안

이 논문은, 그동안 고려대 민족문화연구원 문자코드연구센터에서 연차적으로 수행해온 신출한자의 등록과 처리 과정을 통해 축적된 사례들에서 나타난 문제점을 분석함으로써, 고전 전산화에 있어서 신출한자의 유형과 처리 방안에 대해 정리한 것이다. 먼저 신출한자의 개념을 정리하고 사례별로 유형을 분석하였다. 신출한자는 한문 고전 전산화 작업 과정에서 새롭게 조사․추출된 한자로서, 국제 표준규격인 유니코드 통합한자 및 확장한자 문자세트에 아직 등록되어 있지 않은 한자를 말한다. 신출한자의 유형은 크게 이체자류와 신출자류로 구분된다. 이체자류는 유니코드에 등록되어 있는 한자와 자형만이 다른 이체자들을 가리키고, 신출자류는 기존에 등록되지 않은 한자로서 새롭게 발견된 한자를 가리킨다. 신출한자 처리의 과정과 방안에서는 신출한자 처리의 진행 과정, 각각의 사례와 장단점, 바람직한 방안의 제시로 나누어 살펴보았다. 신출 한자의 처리는 여러 가지 방법이 사용되어왔지만, 모두 장단점을 가지고 있음을 지적하였다. 결론적으로 유니코드에 수록된 Extention B의 경우는 코드값을 붙이고, 기타 새로운 한자의 경우에는 자형의 이미지를 링크시켜 화면에 출력해주는 방법이 가장 현실적인 대안으로 보았다. 끝으로 한자 처리의 과제와 전망을 제시하였다. 이 과제를 원활히 수행하는 데는 관련 정부기관은 물론 학계와 정보산업계의 긴밀한 협조체계가 절실함을 강조하였다.
Abstract
The Character Codes Research Center(CCRC) has registered un- coded ideographs. In this work, we are going to propose the way of categorizing and encoding ‘Newly found ideographs(新出漢字)’ by an- alyzing its process so far. At first, we determine the concept of ‘Newly found ideographs’, and analyze its pattern. ‘Newly found ideographs’ means letters which have been found in digitalizing old documents, not registered in Unicode CJK ideographs. We divide into two ways, ‘Variants(異體字)’group and ‘Newly found ideographs’ group. The glyph form of Variants is different from the standard ideographs registered in Unicode CJK ideographs but their pronunciation and meaning are all the same. Newly found ideographs group means new characters which has not been registered in Unicode CJK ideographs. We analyzed the process of digitalizing ‘Newly found ideographs’, and checked its problems. We found some problems in many cases. Such processes have been brought out in various ways, but every case has its own problem. Finally we want to propose our solution of encoding ‘Newly found ideographs’. Characters in Unicode CJK Extention B will be registered in Unicode CJK ideographs. Other new characters will be presented by linking image file of its glyph. For this work, the most important thing is the co-relationship between government, scholatic society and I.T. industrial society.
