본 연구의 논점은 다음의 두 문제제기로 대신할 수 있다. 첫째, 라틴아메리카 문학정전에 관한 최근 논의가 어떤 쟁점을 토대로 진행되고 있는가? 둘째, 세계 문학 정전으로 위치를 확보하지 못했음에도 불구하고 해당 지역성을 대표하는 주요 문학 장르나 문체(특히 일기, 단편, 증언서사, 미니픽션)에 어떤 가치부여가 가능한가? 라틴아메리카의 역사와 사회를 대변하는 과정에서 비록 중심에 서지 못했지만 점차 그 중요성을 인정받고 있는 이 네 가지 장르적 흐름에 대한 재평가는 그 정체성 확립의 과정에도 큰 영향을 줄 수 있는 문제인 만큼 재고의 여지가 필요하다고 본다. 본고의 3장에는 그 네 장르의 특성과 주요 작품에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 문학 정전의 문제는 인터넷과 같은 소통구조의 진화와 독자들의 지적능력 향상으로 인하여 미래에 또 다른 양상으로 전개되겠지만 선택과 배제의 정치적 논리가 항상 결부된 개념인 만큼 자연스럽게 해결되리라는 보장을 하기에는 많은 무리가 따른다. 바람직한 해답에 도달하기 위해서는 사회 전체가 참여할 수 있는 열린 논쟁과 아울러 소외된 문체 혹은 작품에 대한 지속적인 발굴 및 소개가 보다 현실적인 대안으로 판단된다.
Abstract
The main issue of this study focuses on the following two questions: first, what is the main point of the recent discussions about the Latin American literary canon?; second, is it possible to give any value to the marginalized literary genres, such as diario, cuento, testimonio, minificció́n, that represent the Latin American locality, despite of their unstable position in the "World Literature". In my opinion, it is necessary to recognize these increasingly important four genres as literary categories, since they are deeply related to the question of their own identity formation, although we acknowledge that such canonization has never been done even in the field of Latin American studies. For that matter, we need to understand the political influence in the creation of these literary genres since it is impossible to discuss Latin American literary canon without taking into consideration of their political realities that have controled such canonization. This problem of literary canon seems to be more or less settled, thanks to the improvement of communication methods like the Internet as well as the constant development of the readers' intellectual capability. However, in order to withdraw a desirable answer it is important for the whole society to participate in an open debate as well as to recognize the value of the marginalized writing styles and their literary works.
