초록
This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidative ability and melanin synthesis-promoting ability of Epimedium koreanum water extract (EKWE) in vitro test. Contents of total polyphenol compounds and total flavonoid of EKWE were 67.7 mg/g and 53.1 mg/g, respectively. Electron donating abilities of BHT and EKWE at 1,000 μg/mL were 68.4% and 71.8%, respectively. Nitrite scavenging abilities of ascorbic acid and EKWE at 1,000 μg/mL were 64.5% and 62.5%, respectively. EKWE showed a high antioxidative ability. In MTT assay, the maximum permissible level of EKWE to melana cells was over 200 μg/mL. EKWE effectively promoted melanin synthesis of melan-a cells in a dose-dependent way. Melanin contents of EKWE were significantly higher as 13.0% (p<0.01), 15.2% (p<0.001), 30.9% (p <0.001), 34.7%(p<0.001) at concentrations of 1.563, 3.125, 6.25, 12.5 μg/mL, respectively, than the control group. EKWE showed a similar effect to IBMX (positive control) in melanin synthetic ability.
