Abstract

This study examined that what kind of routes students used to acquire informations about their major on choice of their major, what kind of major choice factors was the most affected, and how these choice factors also influenced to the major satisfaction, learning preference. To implement a positive analysis, from September 5 to 30, 2010, 800 students majoring in Police Science in 15 universities/colleges that had established Police Science, were surveyed. Five principal findings were emerged from this study. First, the main route that student acquired information on their major was the media like a TV or internet. However, relatively, information acquisition through the guide book and orientation of university is more less than the media. Second, aptitude and capacity recorded high score as a major choice factor. A opportunity of job acquisition is the next. Third, Male's mean is more higher than female's on considering aptitude and capacity, opportunity of job acquisition, job of parents or relatives,awareness of university/college, fame of professor, when they choose majoring in Police Science, and this difference was significant. Forth, students who considered aptitude and capacity opportunity of job acquisition were likely to be high in major satisfaction. In the contrast, students who considered awareness of university had lower major satisfaction than the former Lastly, students considered the aptitude, capacity and opportunity of job acquisition, when they choose their major, the learning preference is higher than the others. It was also presented that students considered an awareness of professor or a construction of major program, when they choose their major, had more a learning preference.
