초록

The Peace Corps Volunteers Program in Korea (PCVK) was conducted from 1966 to 1981. The PCVK is generally considered to be of great success particularly in improving English education in Korea, despite no comprehensive analysis of its educational effects on English education. This paper is aimed at examining what had been done by the PCVs to improve Korea's grammar-oriented English teaching methodology of the time, and thereby to evaluate their new challenges to English education in Korea. In so doing, this paper is particularly concerned with shedding light on comparatively objective perspectives on the PCVK's contribution to English education in Korea. Chiefly based on Lee's (2014) data collection on the PCVK, the paper explains Kailian's (1980) questionnaire analysis of English test administered in 1979.
