한국과 중국의 주요 수출품목 무역특화도 분석 (1992∼2020)

본 연구에서는 무역통계 자료를 활용해 한·중 공식 수교가 이루어진 1992년부터 2020년까지 한국과 중국의 주요 수출 품목의 무역특화도의 변화를 분석하였다. RSCA, TSI, CTB의 세 가지 지수를 바탕으로 수출비중 측면과 무역 수지 측면의 비교우위, 교역량 비중의 변화 양상을 각각 비교했으며, 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수출비중 기준의 비교우위를 나타내는 RSCA 지수 기준으로 한국과 중국 모두 고위기술 중심 품목의 특화도가 점차 증가했으나 저위기술 중심 품목의 특화도는 감소세를 보였다. 둘째, 무역수지 측면에서의 비교우위인 TSI 지수 기준으로는 한국이 고위기술 중심 품목에서 중국보다 특화되었으며, 저위기술 중심 품목 수출에 있어서는 중국의 특화도가 한국보다 높은 수준을 유지하고있다. 셋째, 양국 공통의 주요 고위기술 중심 품목 중 ‘광학기기 등’은 2000년대 초 이후 한국이 대 중국 무역수지 측면에서 뚜렷한 비교우위를 확보했으나, ‘전자기기와 그 부분품’은 산업 내 무역 활성화로 인해 양국의 TSI 지수 차이가 상대적으로 작다. 넷째, 양국 모두 고위기술 중심 품목의 교역량 비중이 증가했으나 중저위기술 및 저위기술 중심 품목의교역량 비중은 감소세를 보였다.
Abstract
This study analyzes how the trade specialization of major export items from South Korea and China has changed from 1992 to 2020. Using the three indices of the RSCA, TSI, and CTB, the change in the comparative advantage of two countries in terms of export share, trade balance, and the proportion of trade capacity were investigated. Main findings are as follows: First, the RSCA indicates the specialization of high-tech items has gradually increased, while the specialization of low-tech items has declined in both countries. Second, on the basis of the TSI Index, South Korea is more highly specialized in high-tech items than China. For the exports of low-tech items, China maintains a higher degree of specialization than Korea. Third, among the major high-tech items, “optical devices, etc.” has exploited comparative advantage in terms of the trade balance between the two countries since the early 2000s, but “electronics and their parts” have a relatively small difference in the TSI index between the two countries due to the increase in intra-industry trade. Fourth, in both countries, the share of trade volume of high-tech item has been increased, but the proportion of trade capacity of low- and mid-low-tech item has declined.
