Abstract

This study aims to provide foundational data for developing a Gyeonggi-style parent education curriculum that reflects regional characteristics and diverse parental needs. A survey of 2,029 parents of elementary, middle, and high school students in Gyeonggi Province was conducted, complemented by qualitative insights gathered through Focus Group Interviews (FGIs) with teachers, education experts, and parents. Findings indicate consistently high demand across all school levels for topics such as sex education, communication and dialogue skills, and career and college preparation. However, prioritization of these topics varied according to school level. Additionally, regional disparities in information access and educational opportunities influenced demand differences. Qualitative data highlighted school participation, communication with teachers, and understanding educational policies as core components of effective parent education. Notably, parents with active school involvement regarded these areas as essential for expanding their educational roles and fostering cooperative relationships with schools. This suggests that parental school participation is a key contextual factor shaping their perceptions and expectations. Based on these results, this study recommends designing the Gyeonggi parent education curriculum with differentiated content tailored to children’s developmental stages and school levels, as well as regional conditions. It further emphasizes the importance of programs that enhance understanding of educational policies and support collaborative relationships with schools and teachers to build a trust-based educational cooperation system. Key curriculum design directions include improving accessibility for diverse family structures, establishing a hybrid education system integrating online and offline modalities, and developing parent-led program models.
