초록
This paper discusses mental health and social phenomena in Anne With an E (2017) by Moira Walley-Beckett. The discussion examines the first season of Anne With an E, with reference to Anne of Green Gables (1908) by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Mental health and trauma were recurring themes in Anne of Green Gables, just as they were in Montgomery’s real life. However, in the early 20th century, they were not a topic that women writers could openly address in their works. Therefore, they were described in a low tone in Anne of Green Gables. Walley-Beckett concentrates on this theme and delves deep into the novel to enhance imagination to adapt. Examining how the same theme develops in different historical backgrounds in Montgomery’s novel and Wally-Beckett’s drama helps us understand how ‘Anne’ endured the ordeal of the years.
Abstract
This paper discusses mental health and social phenomena in Anne With an E (2017) by Moira Walley-Beckett. The discussion examines the first season of Anne With an E, with reference to Anne of Green Gables (1908) by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
