Abstract
In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, held on November 5, Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, emerged victorious. Thus, Trump officially began his second term as President on January 20, 2025, after serving his first term from 2017 to 2020. The election was highly contentious, with the unexpected change in the Democratic candidate, an assassination attempt on Trump, and an extremely close race, making it one of the most fiercely contested elections in recent history. This paper primarily aims to analyze the foreign policy stance of the Trump administration towards China’s policy in its second term, and how this might impact the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula. The paper is structured as follows: Chapter 2 revisits the rapidly evolving 2024 U.S. presidential election process and outcome, analyzing the factors that led to Trump's victory. Chapter 3 examines the foreign policy framework and China policy during the first term of the Trump administration. The U.S.-China relations during Trump's first term serve as an important benchmark for predicting the course of U.S.-China relations in his second term. Chapter 4 forecasts the foreign policy approach of the Trump administration towards China in its second term, while Chapter 5 looks into the Chinese government's policy toward the U.S. under President Xi Jinping. Finally, Chapter 6 concludes with an analysis of how U.S.-China relations under Trump’s second term might affect the Korean Peninsula and discusses possible strategic responses.
