Abstract
The problem of sexual minorities and immigrants takes a crucial part in social conflict In the Middle East, but seems a strange subject to the outside world. Because religious and ethnic minority issues monopolize the debate on minorities in this region. In this context, the paper deals with the gap between reality and discourse in the domain of minority, and its historical and actual backgrounds, by introducing some symbolic events. Through this, we aim to emphasize the universal aspects of Middle Eastern societies. The weak interest in social minorities could be explained by some reasons such as a dilemma of liberty of expression vs. respect of diversity, imperialism within western discourse on sexual minority, etc.. The Arab spring produced a double result in this aspect. It acted as an opportunity of promoting the rights of minorities and also the yearning for a unified and homogeneous society. When considering this, the tendency of prioritizing the groups and group relations much than the individuals and their rights will not be easily overcome.
