Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine how freshmen seminars have positive influence on student engagement. Student engagement is known as a variable that affects the learning outcomes of college students, which means that students participate in college-provided programs and learning processes with classmates, interact with professors and use college resources. 1,017 valid responses from students in 12 universities of 4-year were analyzed. According to the results, students who took freshman seminar more engaged in educational purposeful activities than students who didn’t take the course. Freshman seminar encouraged students to participate or plan various academic and nonacademic activities. The satisfactory freshman seminars with diverse topics promoted student-faculty interactions which were related other student engagement. Freshman seminars with less than or equal to 40 students were highly efficient to promote student engagement. This study would give implications to improve freshman seminar further.
