沈魯崇 悼亡文에 나타난 죽음의 수용 양상과 그 意義

Abstract

This study examines the following characteristics in Shim No-sung's sorrowful tale of his deceased wife: First, he had total 24 literary works depicting his sorrow after the death of his wife; including 22 that were written within two years of her death, one that was written 24 years after her death, and another written on the 30th anniversary of her death. These works reveal the successive process in his self-acceptance of the invincible force called death. The first step was mourning as he blamed himself for her death. The second step involved his resentment of his deceased wife, and his grief as he was left alone. The final step was his recollections and memories of his deceased wife. Secondly, he attempted logical inquiries into the nature of life and death in the sorrowful literature about his deceased wife by using two literary styles, "Won" and "Gi." He examined the emotional element called love by turning it into a logical one, thereby adopting the "Won" style. He fundamentally explored human life by adopting the "Gi" style. He seems to have made the attempt at self-justification regarding the inevitable situation of death.
