본 논문은 프랑스의 한국 유학생들의 학업이주와 사회적 이동에 대해 다루고자 한다. 장기간의 현장조사(2011-2015)에서 입수된 심층면접 자료를 바탕으로 프랑스에서 유학한 시기에 따라 학생들을 2000년대 유학한 그룹과 2010년대 유학한 그룹으로 나누었다. 학생그룹의 유학시기별(2000, 2010) 컨텍스트 분석은 유학동기에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 중요한 사회역사적 사건, 경제적 상황의 변화를 이해하도록 한다. 본 논문의 목적은 역사적, 사회적 변화를 기점으로 개인의 대조적 경험과 다변화되는 학업경로를 탐색하는데 있다. 2000년대 ‘탐미적 경험’의 독학가, 문화애호가, 자기 취향에 충실한 개인주의자의 모습이라면, 2010년대 ‘경제적 경험’은 사회적 제도적으로 체계적인 지원뿐만 아니라 단기간에 성공해야 한다는 압박감이 더 커졌다. 이러한 변화는 사회경제적 맥락의 변화와 맞물린 시간적 가속화에 기인한다.
Abstract
This article aims to deal with the student migration and social mobility of Korean students studying in France. Based on the in-depth interview data obtained from a long-term field survey (2011-2015), the students were divided into a group of students studying abroad in the 2000s and a group studying abroad in the 2010s according to the period of study in France. Context analysis of student groups by period of study (2000, 2010) helps to understand important socio-historical events and changes in economic conditions that can affect study abroad motivation. The purpose of this article is to explore the contrasting experiences of individual and diversified academic paths based on historical and social changes. If the “aesthetic” of the 2000s was self-taught, dilettante and individualist faithful to one’s own taste, the “economic” of the 2010s had greater social and institutional support as well as the pressure to achieve success in a short period of time. These changes are due to the acceleration of time in conjunction with the changes in the socioeconomic context.
